Celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science

10 February 2023

As we celebrate the eighth International Day for Women and Girls in Science on Saturday 11th February 2023, we know that, as technology specialists, our industry needs to do so much more. While Artificial Intelligence may be a hot topic, the United Nations has reported that only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman in cutting edge fields like AI.

The role that women have played in science and technology has been under reported across history. From Dr. Kathrin Jansen who led an unprecedented effort involving a team of more than 700 researchers to create the COVID vaccine in a matter of months to Margaret Hamilton who, as Director of the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, developed on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo program. It’s time to celebrate the achievements of women in technology and science and work towards a diverse future.

Its been proven that a diverse workforce leads to better innovation, engagement and performance, and we’re proud to have women working across all levels in leading technology roles including Product Owners, Payments SMEs, Senior Architects, Developers and Scrum Masters.

“My experience as a woman in tech has, for the most part, been positive. I have found myself working within organizations where my more experienced colleagues encouraged me to be the best I could be. They were happy to share their knowledge and recommend reading material / upcoming conventions to help boost my understanding. I have to admit that working in a male dominated industry at times isn’t easy, but I have found that if you ask, people are happy to help. As I progress in my career, I am connecting with more women in tech and also finding that young girls are more aware / interested in jobs in tech. I am proud to be a woman in tech and even prouder that I am in a position where I can inspire more women to join the industry.”
