Job description

Solution Architects work onsite with clients to help them achieve their business aims by providing architectural, domain, and delivery expertise at the solution level. Whilst projects usually have a strong technology element, the Solution Architect will focus on relating technology capabilities and building blocks to the business drivers and goals. Candidates will have demonstrated the ability to architect, design and estimate complex software solutions and ensure these are achievable within the client’s environment. The role requires someone with a passion for the detail, an understanding of governance, experience in system integration, and the ability to frame and deliver a compelling solution roadmap.


Principal responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and owning architecture deliverables within client projects, specifically within the digital banking / digitalisation domain
  • Understanding the business and organisational context of client engagements and using this knowledge to identify opportunities and reduce risks
  • Playing an influential role in pushing digital banking projects to delivery, interacting with design authorities, IT teams, and business stakeholders as necessary
  • Representing Icon professionally in customer engagements, using excellent inter-personal skills to develop and realise further opportunities for the company
  • Supporting pre-sales proposals and propositions in the form of client meetings, approach and estimation for solutions
  • Leading technical and non-technical colleagues and clients through the delivery lifecycle
  • Recognising emerging market trends and future requirements, building appropriate knowledge and capability to inform clients and keep Icon at the front of the market

Skills and experience will include:

  • A strong technical and solution architecture background built upon software engineering experiences within a digital banking / digitalisation environment
  • A track record of owning and delivering solutions across a broad spectrum of the project delivery lifecycle in involving mixed shore resources
  • The ability to communicate efficiently upwards (to business), downwards (to IT teams) and laterally (to peers, vendors, and client side staff)
  • Familiarity with technology concepts, roles, and terminology, and the ability to work closely with application architects and modellers
  • The ability to serve as an active participant in architecture groups and forums communicating solution strategy and design in conversation, documentation and presentation
  • In addition to the above, the following background experience would be highly beneficial:
  • Consultancy / customer facing experiences within a software vendor or enterprise scale services environment
  • Financial Services domain knowledge with practical experience of mobilising technology to meet the market dynamics effecting the financial services domain (Risk / Cost / Customer)
  • Pre-sales experience and comfort engaging with clients to demonstrate capability and understand requirements

Additional Information: 

  • Salary Offered: Competitive Base +20% bonus + benefits
  • Travel profile: Candidates should be willing to work at client site (predominantly in Central London) in the interest of meeting with customers and collaborating with colleagues

Job description

Client Engagement:

  • Build and enhance relationships with key client stakeholders (proactive steps to meet or talk with them regularly – for example perhaps a breakfast or lunch catch-up meeting)
  • Ensure any issues raised by resources on the engagement are addressed appropriately and swiftly (e.g. client pressure to work extended or unsociable hours, dissatisfaction with the role/ project/ client/ co-workers etc)
  • Ensure the teams on the ground are demonstrating Icon core values at all times.

Delivery:

  • Ensure all team members understand their roles and responsibilities and any specific objectives for the engagement.
  • Establish a regular 1:1 with each Icon team member to check their progress and manage any issues.

Staff Engagement:

  • Review team members performance.
  • Work with HR and Senior Management to disseminate any information cascades to the team.
  • Ensure that any feedback from them is collected and passed back to Icon and dealt with appropriately

    Knowledge Management:

    • Ensure any opportunities identified are flagged to the sales team, Account Manager or someone else suitable.
    • Produce lessons learned logs for engagements/undertake periodic reviews as required
    • Ensure that materials created during the engagement are updated and stored for Icon’s future use, if appropriate.

    Reporting:

    • Responsible for the QA of internal and external status reports
    • Ensure that the Delivery Director is made aware of any issues which arise within the project.

    Finance and Billing:

    • Ensure you are always aware of the financial position of the engagement (day rates per resource, burn rate, allocated budget, budget remaining and budget end date, and that project contract extensions (SoW’s) are in progress in good time (check this with the Account Manager or sales)
    • Be aware of associate resourcing matters including notice periods (should we want to let an associate go) and renewal dates (should we want to extend them).
