Careers

I started working in catering as a teenager and then was a chef for around ten years. I loved cheffing and found it very fulfilling, but had been craving a different challenge for a while before I stumbled across coding via my baby sister's homework. I found it so fun that I decided I wanted to pursue engineering as a career. As a neurodivergent person I always hated traditional schooling - I knew that an academic route was not for me. After teaching myself some basic coding skills I found the 'talent in tech programme' at Icon and joined them 2024, despite not having the type of CV that would usually land you a job with a fintech!
 
I've now been at Icon for a year and have loved every second of it. It's challenging and can be high pressure at times, but the culture is such that effort is rewarded and mistakes are forgiven - each day I learn more than the last and I wouldn't change a thing.

After completing my Master’s in Computer Science and working for 2.5 years at a tech company in India, I moved to the UK, where personal circumstances led me to step away from tech. I then spent nearly 15 years at the Post Office, progressing to Branch Manager. While I gained valuable experience, the work became repetitive, and I felt a strong pull to return to my tech roots.

I joined Icon in 2023 via the “talent in tech programme” and have reignited my passion for software engineering, and have received in-depth training and support, particularly around payments and financial systems. Within  two years of being at Icon, I’ve already been promoted and am currently working on the implementation of IPF for one of the leading global banks. It's been an incredibly rewarding journey, and I truly enjoy being part of such a collaborative and innovative environment.
